I run 4 separate businesses. 2 of which are family owned (ie: belonging to people related to me but not mine) and 2 more which I own and had recently branched out into. Having spent 15 years working for family is not a period I could relate to as my proudest moments. Everyone claims to have office politics in their workplace, but to survive through politics in both the work and home environment will surely kill. I am what you would call a hot headed employee but a cool headed boss. I am hard on my superiors though I do not have many but at times too soft with my subordinates. Although it may sound absurd, this strategy has helped me accomplish great things in work. Unfortunately, it has also caused a lot of problems in recent times with my folks. My biggest obstacles are also those closest to me. An irony that cannot be explained in words but has left many battle scars over the years. Nonetheless, business has been good and more than doubled since I began.
There is much I can talk about in managing and running a business for that is my forte. However, nothing quite beats having the right vision, the right opportunity and executing it at the right time. Opportunity and Timing is crucial in almost every decision we make. Be it a new service offering or a much required organizational revamp, there is always a right time for execution. Trouble is, we can't always tell when the timing is right can we? Everything is always a risk and nothing is ever guaranteed.
Despite this, do not be afraid to take a leap of faith when you know the timing is right. Is this what they call the entrepreneurial spirit? I do not know. I call this doing what must be done even if the world does not always agree with you. I believe in my vision and I clearly see what I need to do to get there.
Embrace the inner-belief in yourself if you want to succeed. If you don't, no one else will.
