I guess everyone is human after all. As a person, I abide by simple rules of mutual respect and never judging someone's action without first understanding the circumstances.
As a friend, I've constantly asked myself if I have added value to the people around me. Never trying to assume, and never expecting anything in return. Giving is, I guess, very much in my nature.
However, from time to time, I do ask if the people around me are starting to take what I do for granted. Just because I am always in a positive spirit does not necessarily mean that I appreciate sarcasms and negativity. Quite the contrary to be honest. When I do call and chat, it is because I care, and not because I am always ready to be your punching bag! A word of advice. If you keep treating your friends that way, sooner or later, they will walk. We are all not without our own pride and ego.
And then there's the whole money issue. Seriously, do you honestly believe that just because a person earns a bigger salary that his money is easier to earn than yours? Some people have the misconception that just because a person can afford certain luxuries in life that he can be always be depended upon to "lend" money when required. What upsets me most is when these "borrowers" tend to take things for granted and seem to expect help constantly! It never ends!
When I can help, if I can, it is because I believe that it is right to. However, when you help someone constantly, it is no longer helping, it is harming. It becomes a reliance. People get used to it, people start expecting it and very soon, you become the easy way out. Please try and SOLVE THE PROBLEM! Don't always depend on others to solve it for you! Don't take for granted that just because someone is a friend that he/she should and must help you no matter how dire your situation may be. Regardless of how much a person earns, do always remember that they will have their own commitments to settle at the end of the month too. Money is never easy to earn, and it gets harder the more you earn.
So to those out there who are constantly taking their friends for granted, just remember, it will not last forever. Good friends are hard to come by, won't it be a shame to lose one like that?
