I do apologize to my readers that is has taken me a month to write. It's been a busy time for me both at work and in my personal life. Work has been stressful of late with too many things happening at the same time and it is becoming a feat just to keep track of what to do next.
On a personal level, I had spent more than a week at the hospital as my eldest son was diagnosed with Kawasaki's Disease. This was an extremely difficult time for my family and we were certainly put to the test. He has since recovered from Kawasaki's disease and is back to school. A big thanks to everyone who prayed and wished him well.
So what should I write about today? Read an article recently about the effects of Karma and how it isn't always about superstition. Karma certainly exists and we see it, quote it and live it daily.
What is Karma? Karma is the Sanskrit word for action. It is equivalent to Newton's law of every action having an equal and opposite reaction. When we think, speak or act we initiate a force that will react accordingly. This returning force maybe modified, changed or suspended, but most people will not be able to eradicate it. A person may not escape the consequences of his actions, but he will only suffer if he has made the conditions ripe for his suffering. Ignorance of the law is no excuse whether the laws are man-made or universal.
Having done a little research on Karma years ago, allow me to touch on what I feel are the 10 best universal laws to describe Karma.
As you sow, so shall you reap. The world is round - Whatever you put in it comes back to you one way or another, good or bad. This is arguably the universal definition of Karma and arguably the main reason why some philanthropists (or wannabe) choose to donate large portions of their fortune. In many religions, we see this being portrayed time and again. From Christianity to Hinduism, Buddhism or even Sikhism, Karma plays an important part in each religion. Yet Karma is not religiously driven. It merely teaches us to be responsible for our actions and where possible, do good.
2. The Law of Creation
The theory that life doesn't simply just happen but is an accumulation of actions that events leading to it. Yes, I agree that on the surface that sounds almost common sense and can be taken literally...or physically! But if you look deeper into the numerous chain of events that takes place, all falling in nicely like someone's master-plan, you'll start to appreciate that it is no coincidence how things, living or otherwise are created. Our environment gives us clues as to who and what we are. These in turn causes a rippling effect that can be felt for years or generations to come. Therefore immerse yourself with what you want to have present in your life and you'll be surprised how much it rubs off on you and the people around.
3. The Law of Humility
What you refuse to accept, will continue for you. Humility requires us to accept what we cannot change before we are finally able to change it. If you can't accept failure, forget about success. There are times in life when we need to accept our flaws, recognize it and move past it. If all we see are negative traits in people, then we will always be negative. Recognize the positivity in others and others will do the same for you.
4. The Law of Growth
Yes, it is a fact that we all grow up, grow old and grow weary. However, are we growing in spirit, in character or in life experiences? Much too often, we expect the people, situation, or places around us to change but yet we stagnate. When was the last time we measured our own development instead of the lack in others? The only given we have in our life is ourselves and that is the ONLY factor we ever have total control over. When we focus on changing who or what we are, our lives will follow suit. Keep growing, keep experiencing, keep progressing.
5. The Law of Responsibility
We are responsible for what we have become. When we look at mirror and we are not happy with what we see, do we blame someone for it? What good does that do? You have a responsibility for EVERYTHING in your own life. Therefore be responsible for who you are and what you have become and if you don't like what you see...change it!
6. The Law of Connection
Everything is connected to each other in this universe of life. Even something small and mundane like watering the plants is important when you look at bigger picture of existence. There is nothing insignificant in the things we do as it spirals through one to another. By the same token, neither the first step nor the last is more important than the other as both are required to complete the task. As an example, think of what the rock star would do without the sound technicians. Never feel that what you do is insignificant. Without your actions, the world that we know will never be the same. We are all connected one way or another; our past, present and future.
7. The Law of Focus
This simple law says that we move toward that which we focus on. It is amazing what a little focus can do in helping you accomplish your tasks. Simplicity is but a matter of focusing your thoughts on the right objectives and letting the distractions blur out in the background. Focus on the outcome, not the obstacles. Let's take the example of a child learning to ride a bike. If he focuses on not hitting a pile of stones in front of him, guess what happens next? He hits the stones and falls off his bike! Why? Because that is how we are made. Our eyes lead and our bodies follow. We do not walk down the street looking BEHIND us. We look ahead so that we can see where you are going. Likewise, nobody drives looking in the rear view mirror, you look down the road. You always ends up going where you look. Therefore the real question remains, are we looking at where we want to go or where we hope we don't end up at?
8. The Law of Giving and Receiving
Wherever I go, and whoever I encounter, I will bring them a gift. The gift may be a compliment, a flower, or a smile. Today, I will give something to everyone I come into contact with, and so I will begin the process of circulating joy, wealth and affluence in my life and in the lives of others. This is a commitment that I hope to keep until the day I am no longer.
9. The Law of Constant Change
The only constant in life is Change. Everything evolves from one point to another and each point must be experienced before moving to the next. As humans, we continuously grow from the moment were born (yes, I know, some of us have yet to stop!) therefore with growth and change comes the need for balance. How we control, manage and moderate our words and actions help maintain that balance. Yet only when we have achieved some form of balance will we be in harmony with ourselves and those around us. My friends, this is not about religion, this is about life and the way we choose to live. Be in harmony with yourself and you will be much happier.
10. The Law of Patience and Reward
This law seems to be one of the most challenging for many people because it involves the characteristic of patience. It’s a difficult attribute for people to remember in our society of immediate gratification and the “What's taking so long?” feeling. This law speaks specifically to the belief that “all rewards require initial toil, and the rewards of lasting value require patient and persistent toil.” Be patient, the time will come.
There it is! That's really all I can write today. I sincerely hope that this lengthy post is able to remind and inspire those who took the time to read. I had initially started writing this more than 2 weeks ago but got too busy with work and family that it got neglected. I do apologize to those that had patiently waited for my updates and posts. I want you to know that I am inspired to continue blogging because you care enough to read. Thank You for making this blog special!
